ABB and Cleanwatts sign MOU to accelerate intelligent energy management in communities and buildings

  • AI-driven energy-sharing platform will be integrated with ABB energy management technology
  • The partnership targets lower costs, enhanced energy visualization and efficiency, energy sharing and flexibility, and user convenience in renewable energy communities
  • Both companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore joint solutions

ABB, a global technology leader in electrification and automation, and Cleanwatts Digital s.a. (Cleanwatts), a software solutions provider for artificial intelligence (AI)-driven energy-sharing in connected, sustainable communities, announced a memorandum of understanding to build enhanced energy management and efficiency technologies for communities and buildings.

The collaboration will focus on developing scalable projects in European key markets, and on enabling users and property managers to make efficient and sustainable use of energy through smart monitoring and control solutions.

The two companies will build solutions that combine Cleanwatts’ advanced energy-sharing platform with ABB’s high-quality energy management technology, such as the InSite energy management system, energy meters, sensors and electric vehicle (EV) chargers, among others. By leveraging both parties’ capabilities both companies will offer a unified and scalable solution to harmonize renewable generation, storage, and energy-efficient operations.

The collaboration will bring significant benefits for community members including lower energy costs through optimized consumption of self-produced renewable energy, reduced electricity connection charges with minimized power peaks, and enhanced efficiency and performance of renewable equipment including energy storage. It will bring the possibility to seamlessly manage local energy use, control assets and loads, demand response incentives, and access to energy trading practices.

“Working together, the companies will provide a joint solution marrying ABB’s energy management technology with Cleanwatts’ AI-driven energy-sharing platforms benefiting communities and their residents in key markets,” said Laura Socci, Global Portfolio Manager for Energy Distribution Digital Solutions at ABB. “This landmark partnership offers the most advanced energy management optimization solutions benefiting energy community managers and investors.”

“We are dedicated to reshaping communities and industries towards a sustainable and efficient future. This partnership allows us to enhance our software solutions with ABB’s energy management portfolio, creating a seamless integration that will optimize energy consumption and drive sustainability,” said Luisa Matos, CEO of Cleanwatts. “Together, we will shape the future of sustainable energy, revolutionizing energy management and leading the way in the energy transition.”

The partnership announcement follows a project collaboration between ABB, Cleanwatts, and other technology partners to provide tools for residents at the smart community property development in Brobyholm, near Stockholm in Sweden to manage their energy use easily and smartly.
