At CLEANPOWER, PES Wind caught up with Bill Slatter, Director of Blade Products at ONYX Insight, to discuss their innovative EcoBlade monitoring technology.
The EcoBlade system uses high-performance MEMS sensors encapsulated in polyurethane to track wind turbine blades. Two sensors are installed per blade at the root and at a 30% span, feeding data 24/7 into a hub-mounted aggregator. This continuous stream allows operators to understand exactly how and when blade damage occurs.
Slatter emphasized ONYX Insight's focus on making up-tower installations simple and repeatable. Featuring a "toolless" commissioning design, a unique glue-down mounting system and robust cable hold-downs, the system ensures technicians can complete high-quality installations quickly without handling fiddly parts.
