At the Global Offshore Wind event, PES Wind caught up with William Coulet, Managing Director of Exo Engineering Int. Ltd., to discuss integrating marine biodiversity solutions into offshore infrastructure.
Coulet introduced Exo Engineering’s nature-inclusive products, including eco-engineered seawalls and cable protection mattresses. He highlighted their project with Total Energies in the Dutch North Sea, where their structures attracted 43 distinct marine species in the first year, including the ecologically vital Ross worm and Atlantic cod.
The focus is on engineering sea life using advanced artificial reefs. Coulet showcased a 12,000 kg swim-through tunnel concept designed to shelter cod, lobsters and crabs from currents and predators. Featuring surface texturing, low centers of gravity and specialized nesting cups, these structures successfully transform offshore wind zones into thriving biological habitats.
