Fluence on the Role of Energy Storage in Grid Stability and Market Growth | In Conversation

Published in: Solar, In Conversation

PES Solar spoke with Fluence at KEY Energy 2026 in Rimini to discuss the evolving role of energy storage and the company’s position in rapidly growing European markets.

Energy storage is no longer viewed purely as a way to shift energy over time. As highlighted during the conversation, modern battery systems are now critical infrastructure, providing grid stability, inertia, voltage control and grid-forming capabilities that support increasingly complex energy networks.

Fluence pointed to real-world deployments to demonstrate this shift. In Lithuania, the company delivered a system that helped stabilise the grid during its transition away from the Russian network, responding in less than 150 milliseconds. In Ukraine, Fluence has deployed more than 600 MWh of energy storage, supporting grid resilience and recovery during ongoing disruption.

Italy is now emerging as one of Europe’s most important storage markets, with significant capacity growth expected by 2030. As the market matures, developers and investors are placing greater emphasis on long-term performance, supply chain reliability and cybersecurity, alongside cost considerations.

Fluence is positioning itself in this environment as a long-term partner, combining technology with lifecycle support. Its high-density storage solutions are designed to reduce land use, simplify construction and improve total cost of ownership, while maintaining a focus on safety, quality and long-term performance.

With an established presence in Italy and experience across global markets, Fluence is aiming to support the next phase of energy storage deployment as part of the wider energy transition.
