Leading-edge erosion and structural damage remain significant maintenance challenges for wind turbine operators, particularly when repairs are delayed.
At WindEnergy Hamburg, PES Wind spoke with Ashley Crowther, Chief Commercial Officer at Aerones, about how robotics, drone inspections and AI can support more proactive blade maintenance.
Ashley discussed using inspection data to identify damage, prioritise repairs and guide robotic maintenance work. He also highlighted ongoing research into UV-curable, glass fibre-reinforced repair materials, aimed at addressing more advanced blade damage while reducing the need for manual laminate repairs.
