VITRONIC inspection systems guarantee highest product quality in the field of battery production

Wiesbaden/Frankfurt, June 18, 2014 – In many areas of battery production, camera-based inspection systems from VITRONIC are taking over demanding inspection tasks to optimize production processes and guarantee final battery quality.

Camera-based inspection systems from VITRONIC are taking over demanding inspection tasks in many areas of battery production, such as coating, joining and assembly. They guarantee battery quality through surface and edge inspections, 3D inspections of weld seams, contour and dimensional measurements, and the determination of component positions for precise automatic gripping (robot vision).

This makes it possible, for example, to detect material and coating deviations within the cell production or to effectively and reliably monitor the quality of weld seams on cell and module housing or the contact of terminals. Inspections are carried out fully automatically and reliably during the production speed or cycle time and NOK areas or parts may be separated out for reworking.

VITRONIC optical inspection and machine vision systems can be adapted as required to the special requirements of automotive and battery manufacturers as regards production environments and the necessary inspection tasks. They conduct inline inspections of the quality of high-performance batteries along the entire production chain – from the production of electrodes, through to the assembly of cells, isolation, joining and the production of diverters, right up to cell packaging and final inspections in cell, as well as module and battery pack production. Changes to component quality can be recorded automatically and deficient areas and parts can be identified and classified reliably.

As optical inspection systems from VITRONIC are deployed along the entire battery production chain they contribute greatly towards the optimization, automation, and monitoring of key processes and production steps.

Maximal process stability and reliability are also becoming increasingly more important in the production of high-performance batteries.
