GMR Solar Tropic is the worlds first Special Economic Zone dedicated to Solar Industry

Situated on the Chennai – Bangalore growth corridor, the 312 acre Zone would be an ecosystem for solar goods, providing world class infrastructure and utilities to house all activities across R&D, Manufacturing, Services and Trading.

This is the first phase of the 3700 acre development of the multi-product GMR Krishnagiri SEZ. Located just off Bangalore, the knowledge capital of the world, it provides a captive home base of high quality talent.

As a Special Economic Zone with no taxes at any stage, GMR Solar Tropic would lead to a reduction in project cost by about 20% and a perpetual savings of operating costs by upto 18%. Profits will also be exempted from tax for up to 15 years. Investment subsidy up to 20% would be available from Special Incentive Package Scheme of Government of India’s Semi Conductor Policy. Timed with the unveiling of India’s solar mission which intends to create a 20GW capacity by 2020, this zone would provide the manufacturers access to one of the biggest emerging solar market.

CH2MHILL have planned this zone with their in-depth understanding of Solar Industry. This plan integrates solar manufacturing activities by co-locating them in their natural order, thus eliminating logistics and inventory holding costs. The Zone would offer R&D facilities, training centres, laser shops and incubators of world class standards as shared cost common facilities. This would significantly reduce the upfront capital costs of manufacturers. Living, learning and recreational facilities are part of the zone. The zone has multimodal logistical linkages in the form of Highways, Cargo and Passenger Airports in the vicinity, in-zone Railway line and proximity to major sea ports.

GMR Solar Tropic is being launched at the 24th PVSEC at Hamburg on September 21, 2009. It gives us great pleasure to invite you at Stand B1 G/43 and press conference from 1700 hrs to 1800hrs at Room B2.2, Congress Centre Hamburg to know more about the Zone.
