DEK Marketing Executive Receives IPC Leadership Award

During last week’s APEX event in San Diego, California, DEK’s Global Marketing Director Karen Moore-Watts received IPC’s Distinguished Committee Leadership Award for her six-year service as chair of the SMEMA Statistical Subcommittee.

Playing a critical role in identifying electronics assembly market developments, the SMEMA Statistical Subcommittee offers input that supports IPC’s global electronics assembly market research efforts. Among many other contributions, Ms Moore-Watts has been instrumental in expanding the scope of one of the subcommittee’s programmes, the Assembly Equipment Statistical Programme, which provides meaningful analysis on assembly equipment market trends.

Commenting on her role as the subcommittee chair, Moore-Watts says, “Acting as the chair of the SMEMA Statistical Subcommittee has been a distinct privilege. The opportunity to work alongside industry peers to deliver substantive market data that benefits programme participants was highly rewarding and, in my view, immensely important. Solid intelligence is critical to the success of any business and this programme provides robust information which enables participating equipment companies to base strategic decisions on sound data.”

Under Moore-Watts’ leadership, the subcommittee grew and improved upon the global statistical programme, adding more company participants, geographic regions, product categories and developing expanded sources of assembly equipment market indicators.

IPC’s Director of Market Research, Sharon Starr, gives much credit to Ms Moore-Watts for her proactivity and ability to grow the programme. “Utilising her networking skills and industry expertise, Karen personally contacted industry colleagues and effectively recruited many new participants into the statistical programme,” says Starr. “The growth in participation enhanced the value of the data significantly.”

“As chair of the Statistical Subcommittee, my goal was to work with subcommittee colleagues to provide a more comprehensive global market view and I think we made some significant progress in this area,” proudly states Moore-Watts. “I share this award with the other volunteer members of the subcommittee who devoted their time and talent to its cause and thank IPC’s Sharon Starr for her direction and support in our endeavours. I look forward to seeing the good work of this group continue to benefit the electronics assembly industry. “
