AceOn launches Renewergy Virtual Power Plant

AceOn Energy has launched the Renewergy Virtual Power Plant (VPP) – a ground-breaking new green energy system which could play a major part in helping the UK meet its climate change targets in the next 20 years.

The company says the Renewergy VPP system can cut a home’s carbon footprint by an average of 60 per cent by maximising renewable energy usage. A household’s electricity bill would fall by between 30-40 per cent and the VPP would also generate income through trading surplus power with the National Grid.

Richard Partington, managing director of Telford-based AceOn Energy, said the launch was a hugely exciting step for the company and offered a real win-win for homeowners and developers:

“We have developed a truly unique, innovative system using the very latest battery storage technology and smart energy management software which allows homes to capture solar energy and then store it in the most efficient and environmentally-friendly way for later use.

“This system not only drives down electricity costs for the homeowner or tenant, but it makes the most efficient use possible of renewable energy and also provides a revenue stream when the surplus power is sold back to the National Grid.”

The Renewergy VPP is particularly attractive for local authorities, social housing providers and developers across the country, looking to meet their own carbon emission targets while generating a return on their capital investment.

The compact systemwhich uses an inverter to convert the solar power, is small enough to fit in a cupboard under stairs and can be both retrofitted to existing homes and installed in new developments.

The best of British, German and Italian engineering

Key components of the Renewergy system include batteries from German market leader BMZ, and inverters from Delios in Italy, which has been supplying the industry for 20 years.

The batteries are predicted to have a 10-year service life and will run 5000 cycles with 80% depth of discharge to extend the battery life

They also have one of the highest charge (90A) and discharge (18kW) capabilities on the market. The inverter controls energy from the solar panels and also charges and discharges the battery.

The system has efficiency levels of greater than 97 per cent with two independent MPPT trackers creating maximum yield from PV panels in all conditions.

To make it user-friendly, the VPP has a graphic touch screen interface which enables both remote monitoring via smart phone or PC and back up function, allowing the battery to operate in the case of a power cut.

Energy and cost saving potential

Richard added: “We are convinced that through the Renewergy VPP we can play a really significant part in helping this country achieve its legal obligation to achieve zero net carbon emissions by 2050. That is good news for the environment, good news for the country and good news for householders, landlords and builders too.”

The VPP can significantly reduce a homeowner or tenant’s electricity bill whilst a specific service charge or rental top up could provide a secondary revenue stream for the landlord. By maximising renewable energy usage, the carbon footprint of each individual household can be reduced by an average of 60 per cent.

The company has a national reputation as a battery specialist, with over 30 years’ experience in the design and manufacture of custom-built battery packs and the distribution of industrial and consumer batteries to the worldwide market.

The energy division provides a training, service and distribution centre to offer a full turnkey solution for residential and commercial battery energy storage systems.
