A Decade Draws to an End

As the decade draws to an end, many of us within the renewables industries will be reflecting upon ten years that have shaped the future.

Prior to 2000, wind and photovoltaic technologies were in their infancy and largely unproven commercially. Yet within a few short years, the spectre of global warming had raised its ugly head and our pioneering energy sources were in demand by both governments and international investors.

Legislation which embraced our technology and fostered new ways of generating power was instituted by every major democracy from China through to the US and Europe, and hitherto overlooked regions became world leaders in the renewables sector.

It seems that we’ve already ridden the storm of last year’s economic crisis, and the only true barriers that lie in the way of future growth relate to materials, planning and human resources. Admittedly, their considerable barriers, but they’re nothing compared to the global environmental mind-shift that was required at the beginning of the decade.

Which begs the question: what does the next ten years hold for the renewables industry?

Well, given the seismic shift that we’ve seen over the last decade, it’s an almost impossible question that will just have to answer itself as time passes. But whatever does happen, you can be sure that Power and Energy Solutions will be right at the heart of the action, and that we’ll continue to keep you informed and up-to-date, as always.

2010 promises to be quite a ride and we’re honoured to remain as your trusted guide to the industry going forward.

Until then, all that remains for us to do is to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a prosperous new year.
