Madrid, 23 November, 2023.- — LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd., a global leader in solar technology, proudly announces a groundbreaking achievement, setting a new world record for the efficiency of crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells at an unprecedented 33.9%. This remarkable accomplishment surpasses the previous record of 33.7%, held by King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST) since May of this year.
The achievement was confirmed by the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) through its latest certification report, positioning LONGi at the forefront of solar technology innovation. This record marks the first time a Chinese company has surpassed the Shockley-Quieser (S-Q) theoretical efficiency limit of 33.7% for single-junction solar cells. Dr. Xixiang Xu, Chief Scientist and Vice President of LONGi Central R&D Institute, notes that this achievement further solidifies LONGi’s position as a dual champion.
Zhenguo Li, Founder and President of LONGi, emphasized the importance of solar cell efficiency as a key indicator in evaluating photovoltaic technologies. Li sees this technology as opening a new track for the development of next-generation high-efficiency solar cells, enabling increased electricity production in the same area exposed to sunlight.
Hua Jiang, Deputy Secretary-General of China Photovoltaic Industry Association (CPIA), hailed LONGi’s achievement as a global leader in crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cell technology. She emphasized that the industry’s focus on cost reduction and efficiency improvement is essential for development. Jiang believes that the mass production of this high-efficiency solar cell technology will significantly decrease the cost of photovoltaic power generation, fostering the growth of the global photovoltaic market and facilitating the ongoing global energy transition.
Zhenguo Li reiterated LONGi’s commitment to monitoring industry changes, emphasizing cost reduction, efficiency improvement, and innovation as the main channels of development. He called for increased collaboration within the industry to drive technological competition and position China’s photovoltaic industry as a global leader through continuous innovation.
