Offshore wind: Installation of the German Trianel wind farm Borkum completed

The 40 AREVA M5000 turbines for the German Trianel wind farm Borkum have been installed successfully by Trianel in the German North Sea. Located 52 kilometers off the German coast, this wind farm has a 200 MW capacity and covers an area of 56 km2.

“This key milestone demonstrates AREVA’s expertise in the offshore wind field. The group now has an installed base capacity exceeding 230 MW, 30 MW of which have been operating at the alpha ventus park in the North Sea since 2009,” said Luc Oursel, President and CEO of AREVA. “When the 80 turbines of the Global Tech I project will be installed in the North Sea, one third of the offshore installed capacity in Germany will be AREVA’s technology.”
In May of this year, AREVA and its partners were awarded two 500 MW offshore wind farms in France, Le Treport and the Yeu-Noirmoutier islands, which will feature AREVA’s new 8 MW turbine. This follows the attribution of another 500 MW field, Saint-Brieuc, in 2012.

These commercial successes, along with the project for a joint venture with GAMESA, confirm AREVA’s position as a reference player in the European offshore wind market.
